October 2009

"JINADEE" track one from our album "House of Luck" has been nominated in the WAM song contest. This is great news. You can listen to the track and if the urge takes you...vote for it :)

Very very good Karma

By the way, EKL hasn't been performing lately as 2 band members have been creating great sounds for a circus on Christmas Island, Indian Ocean :) ...Really just an excuse to swim with Whales - ain't life tough!

February 2009
Some members of EKL are fresh back from travel and studies in India, bringing a new flavour of vocal percussion to their sound. Guest artists have been drawn in to expand the soundscape.
We are very excited to feature George Batey on Viola (Wunjo; Dr Twang; WASO. Geordie's sound is a unique blend of crazy russian; textural odyssey and viola soup - you'll know what we mean when you experience it!);
Manoli Vayoucoulos ( Bass Guitar - Manoli is an in-demand bassist and arranger in the Perth Jazz scene. In amongst his busy schedule, he has worked for a number of years in Jamie's "MiracleBandX" project
and Josh Hogan doing something different with percussion (Tetrafide, Mukti, Taal Naan, and a suite of others josh has won awards for his work in interest in improvisation, composition and research, as well as performing with WASO, MSO and the Australian Youth Orchestra );
and Ziggy Bey Jan Tama - talking drum (Ngewell Kora Group, Ziggy Bey Jan Group, Baaba Maal band).

The last track - a vocal piece will be recorded by February, and the album is ready to be mixed. It's sounding HUGE, and we very excited. Keep an eye out for our downloads page which will be coming soon to this website near you!

26th October 2006
EKL are now back from their first international tour  - with their first full length album! what a fantastic experience!

We got our kit together in France and then zapped off to Italy where we performed to a packed crowd in a mediaeval city at the top of a mountain for 6 nights.  Certaldo was essentially a party of anything you like, a crazy explosion of colour, sound and festive mahem!

We then headed to Linz in Austria (a city that in some respects reminded us very much of home) to perform at the 20th anniversary of the Linzer Pflasterspektakel. It was great to see some familiar faces there and to be a part of what was essentially a smorgasbord of remarkable and sometimes bizarre tale

There was a 2 week gap in our travel itinerary before we were expected at Berne in Switzerland . We

spontaneously drove to Croatia where we performed in the Istra Region to appreciative audiences at night and explored the old cities and the Adriatic during the day. What a life! We also used the time to tidy up a few new compositions in time for Switzerland.

Bern is truly a beautiful city, the people very warm,

…but unfortunately, for the first time, their festival was almost rained out almost but for the shelter provided by arcades and the perseverance of the Bernese who donned raincoats and umbrellas to sample the musical talent that filled the city. How special is that?

For our last festival we headed back through the alps down to Ferrara , Italy. A well established musical extravaganza which runs for 6 nights and a day. During that time the festive spirit ran high and we performed to large crowds (including many aspiring photographers if you were one of them how about sharing some of your photo's of us with us).
